The trucking and transportation industry is very unique when comparing it to other industries. Our economy heavily relies on truckers to keep our country moving and growing. These transportation companies are one of the most important pieces of our supply chain puzzle. If you’re thinking about starting your own business, or if you have an existing business that you’re looking to expand, we are here to help! Commercial truck financing is an ideal solution in this situation, and our team at First Capital Business Finance offers this type of financing to clients.
Box Truck Financing Options for Startups and Business Owners with Bad Credit
First Capital offers box truck financing to business owners across the credit spectrum. Eligible borrowers can be prequalified with a simple phone call to 888-565-6692.
Options for startup business
Financing for high-mileage box trucks
No CDL required for most box truck financing programs
Flexibility for older box trucks
Options for lower-credit business owners
Eligibility Criteria
Condition of the Truck
We review the truck’s make, model, VIN, engine type, transmission, average mileage, accident history, photographs, box/body condition (dry van vs. refrigerated), roll door or lift gate condition, and current valuation.
Truck Vendor
We work with an expanding network of approved dealers and prioritize reputable sellers. Private-party sales from established businesses with documented service and maintenance records are also considered on select programs.
Credit Scores
Both your business credit and personal credit history are considered. We offer programs across the credit spectrum, including options that don’t require a minimum credit score, but consistent monthly revenue and sustained sales over the past six months strengthen any application.
Proof of Down Payment
Down payment requirements typically range from around 10% to 50%, depending on the truck’s age and mileage, your credit profile, and time in business. Business owners with more challenging credit, including a recent bankruptcy or repossession, can expect a higher down payment, but we do have programs for those situations.
Time in Business
Businesses under two years should be ready to show detailed financial records demonstrating profitability and reserve funds. Businesses with two-plus years of history are more likely to be approved but still need to show financial stability.
Proof of Income
Not every program requires proof of income. Existing businesses will typically be asked for the last three months of business bank statements; applicants seeking a lower down payment on lower credit may also need the last two years of tax returns (business and/or personal). Startups without current revenue can often qualify using alternative documentation.
Truck Insurance
Proof of insurance covering property damage and liability of at least $1 million is required.
Other Documents
Typical documentation includes proof of business, tax returns, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, bank statements, permits, and insurance records, though not every program requires all of these. We also offer working capital loans that don’t require tax returns.
Box Truck Fleet Financing for Existing Businesses
First Capital also offers fleet financing for existing businesses running multiple box trucks, step vans, or delivery vehicles. Companies in business longer than two years are no longer considered a startup and may qualify for additional programs.

Investing in a Box Truck Business
The truck itself is one of the biggest investments in a delivery, moving, or route-based business. Depending on class and configuration, box trucks typically range from around $25,000–$45,000 for a light-duty (Class 2–3) model up to $50,000–$90,000 or more for a larger Class 6 truck, with refrigerated (reefer) units often adding $10,000 or more to the price. A reliable truck is essential to running the routes your customers depend on. Box truck financing is a secured loan: the truck itself serves as collateral, which typically means a lower interest rate than an unsecured loan and more flexible credit requirements than a traditional bank loan. Business owners with good credit, bad credit, and even limited credit history may qualify. It’s worth taking time to compare financing options against your business needs and long-term goals. Our advisors are happy to walk you through the differences and help you find the structure that fits.

Bad Credit or Can’t Provide Financials? Not a Problem.
If you’ve experienced a recent bankruptcy, slow payments, a previous repossession, or a low credit score, First Capital has box truck financing programs built for you. Several of our programs don’t require financials or tax returns, and no-money-down consideration is available for well-qualified borrowers. And because most box trucks fall under 26,001 lbs. GVWR, most buyers don’t need a commercial driver’s license (CDL) to qualify. We have programs for CDL holders and non-CDL holders alike.

Starting Your Box Truck Financing Journey: A Guide
Understand What Lenders Look At
Because a box truck is a business asset, not a personal vehicle, lenders apply more scrutiny than a personal auto loan. Your down payment, credit profile, and time in business all factor into your rate and terms. Ask your advisor for a personalized quote rather than assuming a flat rate.
Experience Matters
Your experience and your seller’s reputation both play into approval. Buying from a reputable, established seller, like a First Capital-approved dealer, can strengthen your application.
Box Truck Leasing vs. Financing
If you’re newer to the business or want to preserve capital, leasing can be a worthwhile alternative to financing. Ask your advisor which structure fits your goals.
Gather Your Documentation
- Business documents (LLC/corporate registration, licenses)
- Up to 12 months of bank statements, P&L statements, and balance sheets
- Driver credentials, if applicable (CDL, USDOT number, MC number)
- Recent tax returns
- Proof of insurance
Select a Quality Box Truck
Since the truck secures your loan, its condition and mileage matter. Prioritize trucks with documented maintenance history and reasonable mileage for their age.
Prequalify to Expedite the Process
Applying for pre-approval before you shop can speed up the whole process and give you a clearer budget to work with.
Avoid These Common Box Truck Financing Mistakes
Pulled from what we see trip up applicants most often, and how to steer around each one.
Not knowing the specific loan requirements
Every lender’s documentation, credit, and truck-condition requirements differ. Ask upfront so you’re not caught off guard mid-application.
Overlooking your personal credit score
Even with strong business cash flow, a low personal credit score can raise red flags during underwriting. Review your credit reports and dispute errors before applying.
Submitting incomplete or inaccurate paperwork
Missing or incorrect documents, such as tax returns, bank statements, business licenses, or truck details, delay approval or can trigger a denial. Build a document folder before you apply.
Choosing the wrong loan or the wrong lender
Not every lender specializes in box trucks. A lender who doesn’t understand your business model or route economics is more likely to structure a deal that doesn’t fit.
Borrowing more than you can comfortably afford
Qualifying for the maximum doesn’t mean you should take it. Factor in fuel, insurance, maintenance, and seasonal slowdowns before deciding on a loan amount.
Skipping the down payment and cost-of-ownership math
Understanding loan-to-value ratios and how your down payment affects monthly payments helps you avoid uncomfortable surprises and shows lenders you’re financially prepared.
Not explaining how the truck will generate revenue
Lenders want to see how the truck fits your business, such as delivery routes, contracts, or hauling jobs. A brief summary of intended use strengthens your application.
